‘Love’s Labour’s Lost’: A summery musical confection in the Park

The creative team behind Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson returns to the Public Theater with another clever musical riff on a historical theme: this time a modern update of Shakespeare’s Love’s Labour’s Lost playing at the Public’s Shakespeare in the Park. Composer Michael Friedman has crafted some winning new pop-oriented tunes, while adapter-director Alex Timbers takes a cockeyed approach to updating the story with pop culture references, sight gags, and a healthy absurdist streak. The result is a summertime confection as light, tasty, and ephemeral as cotton candy, served al fresco in Central Park’s Delacorte Theater. Check out my A– review on EW.com
